How Sales Teams Can Make the Most of the Final Months of 2026
With the end of the year fast approaching, it can be tempting for sales teams to ease off the accelerator. Customers are busy, decision-makers are preparing for Christmas, and some deals seem destined to roll over into the new year.
But here’s the thing: the year isn’t over yet, and there could be more sales opportunities waiting to be won. The final months of 2026 are an opportunity to finish strong, strengthen customer relationships and build momentum for the year ahead. The key is knowing where to focus your efforts.

Stop Chasing Every Opportunity
When sales targets are looming, it is easy to pursue every lead in the hope of squeezing in another deal before December. However, not every opportunity deserves the same attention. Take a closer look at your sales pipeline. Which prospects have a genuine need, a clear reason to buy and the ability to make a decision before the end of the year? Prioritise opportunities with realistic potential to progress, and identify the specific actions needed to move each one forward. Spending time on the right prospects is far more effective than chasing everyone.
Reconnect With Customers and Prospects
Sometimes, the next sale is closer than you think. Consider the customers you have not spoken to in a while, the quotes that never received a response and the prospects who expressed interest but never committed.
Rather than sending another generic follow-up email, start a meaningful conversation. Ask what has changed, whether their priorities have shifted and if there is anything preventing them from moving forward. A genuine conversation can uncover new needs, reopen stalled opportunities and strengthen relationships that may lead to future business.
Sell Value, Not Urgency
End-of-year pressure can lead salespeople to offer discounts simply to get a deal across the line. While price reductions might secure a quick win, they can also erode margins and undermine the value of your offering. Instead, revisit what matters most to the customer. What problem are they trying to solve? What is the cost of doing nothing? How will your solution help them achieve their objectives?
When salespeople understand the customer’s priorities and communicate value effectively, they are better positioned to negotiate confidently without immediately resorting to discounts.

Build Your Pipeline for 2027
Finishing the year strongly is important, but preparing for the next one is just as critical. Use quieter periods to identify target accounts, research prospective customers, schedule meetings and reconnect with potential buyers. By building relationships before the Christmas break, your team can return in January with opportunities already in motion.
Remember, January’s results often depend on the groundwork laid in November and December.
Turn the Final Months Into an Advantage
The best sales teams do not simply wait for the year to end. They take control of their priorities, make purposeful decisions and focus on activities that generate results. There is still time to strengthen relationships, progress valuable opportunities and establish a healthier pipeline for 2027. The question is whether your team has the skills, strategy and confidence to make it happen. To find out more about the benefits Sales Training can bring to your Sales Team, click here.
