Case Study
Labour planning and rostering improvement
Brief: Reduce labour costs at a large flight catering kitchen and airport logistic operation. Approach: A client profitability review conducted by us earlier had shown substantial anomalies in labour costs. Our analyses indicated that this resulted from poor legacy rostering processes and staff not properly matched to actual labour demand.
We used our proprietary Activity Based Labour Planning system to evaluated staff requirements, skills mix and business structure options before agreeing on a model that allowed the company to deliver the required savings yet share some of those with employees whilst providing increased flexibility and job security for staff.
Knowledge Transfer: The rosters were published directly out of the Activity Based Planning and Rostering system. After training and knowledge transfer was provided the client was able to access the online system themselves to plan and model future improvements themselves.
Outcome: Significant labour cost reductions were identified and realised within 3 months. The client has gained access to a sophisticated rostering and scenario planning system to allow them to retain the disciplined labour planning approach developed into the future.
